Today has been one of them days. Its been horrible outside. I am over loaded with a cold and a bad chest. I managed to take Becky to work this morning and since i got back home I've locked myself away.
After my usual morning ritual of tea, loading the washing machine and cleaning the kitchen. i remembered my delivery from yesterday.
I get all my supplies from WWW.VanillaValley.co.uk. They offer free delivery on all orders over £30.
I remembered i ordered some dummy cakes, so i had a look at all my left over fondant and decided to have a play about.
At first i covered a 6" dummy cake with white fondant, i dug out some Christmas decorations that i had been saving up, i put them on the top of the cake and sprinkled some icing sugar to give a snow effect.
I also found my snowflake mould, and made a few snowflakes to go around the sides of the cake, i had some left over red ribbon and wrapped it around the bottom of the cake and attached it with a pin. i decided not to cover the board with fondant and instead just sprinkled icing sugar around the board. it was rather effective.
I'm lucky enough to own a Lightbox, it helps with my photographs. my only problem is not having a decent camera, im using a samsung on5 camera phone at the moment. so i rely on android apps to help with editing and watermarks.
After an hour spent trying to get the perfect pictures, i removed all the decorations and went on to cover my 10" dummy cake.
I had no other colour big enough to cover it so had to use some of my white fondant. It was at this point i decided the next one was going to be a Halloween cake to go on display in my front room window. (people walk past every day and its a very long street, so it should get some attention).
I googled white Halloween cakes and wedding cakes popped up. so i scrolled through and found Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. This was perfect.
I rolled out the black long enough to cover around the back and sides of the bottom tier. this was going to his blazer, i had to hand paint the white stripes as i had no more white fondant left over.
Next was his face. I cut out some circles for his eyes and secured them onto the dummy with a little water, then i did his mouth. To give him a finished touch i added a red tie.
Now he sits proudly in my living room window for all the world to see, for the next week or so. xxxx
